During one of our classes, we simulated a fashion show using Miro, which was such an engaging way to explore different fashion styles and better understand the target audience for each. I chose the Preppy style, and diving into it really helped me see how this aesthetic connects with its audience on multiple levels.
Mapping the Preppy Consumer
From the activity, I realized that Preppy fashion is all about projecting sophistication and a love for timeless, polished aesthetics. Using the style wheel on Miro made it clear how Preppy blends tradition with subtle modern twists, which felt very aligned with what we had learned in lectures about branding authenticity. Preppy enthusiasts seem to value practicality in their wardrobe choices while also being drawn to narratives of heritage and exclusivity. This exercise helped me imagine the type of person who might own our designed handbag: someone who values elegance but also wants something functional for their daily life.
Key Learnings from Readings
The readings we did on consumer behavior added another layer of insight. I noticed that audiences today, even those who appreciate traditional styles, are looking for more sustainable and personalized options.
Application of Theory
Through the Miro exercise, I could see how every element of a design speaks to the audience’s lifestyle and values.
Overall, I think this process of simulating a fashion show and combining it with the lectures and readings made me realize just how crucial it is to understand the audience on a deep level.
